Colors or inclusions in Quartz are due to the presence of other minerals (particularly iron), combining with Quartz during its formation. Common varieties are rose quartz, amethyst, citrine, rutilated, and tourmalinated quartz.
Epidote is a green/dark brown gemstone that is abundant and typically found as an inclusion in other stones. It was named in 1801 by Rene Just Haüy, after the Greek word that means “increase” due to the appearance of one side of the crystal being longer at the base of the prism.
